Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions(FAQs) Educators

What is an In-School Field Trip Program?

e2 Young Engineers fieldtrips are a hands on learning experience that teaches children STEM concepts (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) in a fun and exciting way, using motorized LEGO bricks. Our instructors bring all the material needed to your class, and cover curricular outcomes in an engaging way that is bound to captivate your students’ attention and leave a memorable impression. Every student will get to build their own model.

What will students be doing during an In-School Field Trip Program?

The course structure for the class will consist of the following:

  • 15 minutes: Explanation of the model and introduction of lesson content.
  • 40 minutes: Model building.
  • 10 minutes: Playing and enhancing
  • 10 minutes: Model dismantling, kit arrangement and lesson summary

What do I need in order to successfully run an In-School Field Trip Program from my classroom?

Most of our teaching presentations are done in power point. We would need access to a computer or projector to display our slides. If that is unavailable, we can present using a smartboard or whiteboard, as well as a document camera.

Every student will receive a kit and building instructions for the model build. They will need enough space for their kits and room to build their models. Typically, individual desk sizes work well, or 2 students per table.

Do you have a minimum student capacity for your In-School Field Trip Programs?

There is a minimum fee per class for each of our programs:

  • Big Builder (pre-school/kindergarten) – $200/class
  • Briciks Challenge (Grade 1-6) -$250/class

Will Young Engineers travel for an In-School Field Trip Program?

Young Engineer tips open to to travelling to schools in different areas just outside of Edmonton. Depending on how far you live from central Edmonton, a travel fee may be applied. Check out our Travel Fees for more information.

How does payment work?

You will be invoiced once your program has taken place. We will invoice for the number of students participating in the field trip that day. All of our school programs are GST Exempt.

What form of payment do you accept?

We accept payment by cheque or email transfer.

Parents

Do the children take the models home?

Unfortunately, the kits used are very expensive and remain with the instructor, whom will pass them from class to class. Children do however take home what they learn, which includes physics, mathematics and engineering.

Do I need to bring anything to class?

Only a positive attitude and fun. We provide the rest.

Can I stay with my child during class?

Staying with your child is not recommended, unless it is specified as a parented class. The goal of the program is for the child to manage by himself/herself, and try to deal with different tasks.
